Display product images/thumbs on search/smart search result

Hi, unless mistaken it is not possible to setup VM as to display product images in search results.
Does anyone have an idea/solution to this?

It is simply not possible. Joomla does not have any feature to show the specific contents for any external component (like VirtueMart) in their search result. Therefore if you use standard Joomla Search or Smart Search then it will never parse the images of VirtueMart. Only VirtueMart search can show VirtueMart images.
