It is not possible to convert a non-responsive template to a responsive template by update. It will require complete new development. And we will not convert any of our old standard template to responsive layout.

No, that is not correct. We will keep on to develop both non-responsive (standard) and respective Joomla/VirtueMart Templates. Every store does not need to be responsive site and there is still a huge demand of good non-responsive templates as that gives you a freedom to add many custom features in your site which is not possible or very difficult to have with a responsive design.
Our next upcoming template release (expected by 2nd week of Feb 2013) will be a standard non-responsive template built with many new and modern features which you can not have in a responsive design.
